Why I volunteer: Change starts here. The leaders of tomorrow participate (as clients, as volunteers, and as staff) in the many United Way supported programs across Burlington and Hamilton. I was recruited to the McMaster United Way campaign, but then was alarmed to discover how few of my colleagues take this opportunity to give back to our communities. |

A little bit about me: I am a member of Student Open Circles, a United Way that recruits, trains and supervises teams of Mac student volunteers in the community. Why I volunteer: I believe strongly in agencies supported and in the United Way approach to fundraising. |

A little bit about me: I retired from the department of Math & Stats in 2005 after 30 years. I currently volunteer with: Annual McMaster Children's Party, McMaster University Retirees Association (MURA), Dundas Community Services, and am now heading a new committee working to improve the number of activities and events available for "Active Retirees" in Dundas. Why I volunteer: Now that I'm retired, I like to stay connected with the McMaster community and give back. I am very fortunate to be able to live a wonderful life as a 'retiree'. However, there are lots of retirees who are not so lucky and the United Way is there to help them out. It's nice to be able to be a part of that and help out others who are less fortunate. It is especially gratifying to know that you are making a difference in some seniors' lives who should also be enjoying their well-earned retirement years. |

A little bit about me: I have worked for McMaster University since 2003, beginning in the department of Human Resources and currently working in the Faculty of Business. I am also a McMaster graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. Why I volunteer: While in university, I had many volunteer opportunities which coincidentally were United Way funded agencies. I feel that being a part of this committee allows me to give back to the community in a way that goes further than money - it is about educating the public on the amazing things that United Way does for people in need. |
