Why I volunteer: Change starts here. The leaders of tomorrow participate (as clients, as volunteers, and as staff) in the many United Way supported programs across Burlington and Hamilton. I was recruited to the McMaster United Way campaign, but then was alarmed to discover how few of my colleagues take this opportunity to give back to our communities. |

A little bit about me: It is my honour and privilege to work with United Way at McMaster Campaign Team. They work tirelessly to build the campaign so that people in the community receive timely help. You never know when those programs and services will be required. Why I volunteer: Working with this team of dedicated individuals is one of the highlights of my worklife. |

A little bit about me: I retired in 2004 after 30+ years as the Administrator in the Mathematics & Statistics Department. However, I still wanted to maintain my ties with McMaster on a volunteer basis. I have been Co-Chair of McMaster's Annual Children's Party since before my retirement and have been lucky enough to see the Party steadily grow into a major University event. I'm now chairing the Entertainment & Decorations Sub-Committee. I have also represented McMaster's Retirees on the United Way Committee over the past few years and for the past 6 years, have been Membership Chair on the McMaster University Retirees Association Council, looking after a database of almost 2000 McMaster retirees, as well as organizing their Annual Christmas Lunches and AGM's. This year, I was asked to be the first 'Seniors Representative' on Councillor Russ Powers' Dundas Community Council. In my spare time I love to travel and cruising is a passion having completed 34 cruises to date. Why I volunteer: Now that I'm retired, I like to stay connected with the McMaster community and give back. I am very fortunate to be able to live a wonderful life as a 'retiree'. However, there are lots of retirees who are not so lucky and the United Way is there to help them out. It's nice to be able to be a part of that and help out others who are less fortunate. It is especially gratifying to know that you are making a difference in some seniors' lives who should also be enjoying their well-earned retirement years. |

A little bit about me: I have worked for McMaster University since 2003, beginning in the department of Human Resources and currently working in the Faculty of Business. I am also a McMaster graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. Why I volunteer: While in university, I had many volunteer opportunities which coincidentally were United Way funded agencies. I feel that being a part of this committee allows me to give back to the community in a way that goes further than money - it is about educating the public on the amazing things that United Way does for people in need. |
