The New Manager Orientation Program is designed for new people managers at McMaster.  The highly customized program incorporates McMaster's leadership competencies with practical knowledge of business, financial and human resources practices and procedures.  A cohort delivery format enhances peer networking and promotes a highly interactive learning experience.

The curriculum incorporates current best practice literature with particular emphasis on employee engagement and strength-based people development.  These concepts support McMaster's leadership competencies.

Who Should Attend?

Members of TMG and MUFA Librarians with direct-reports:

  • Priority given to managers who are new to McMaster (<1.5 years);
  • Appropriate for individuals promoted to TMG positions from within McMaster;
  • Managers who have not completed Leadership Development (Core Competency) Program are eligible to participate as space permits;
  • Faculty leaders (Chairs, Directors, Assistant Deans) may participate as space permits.

Note: A commitment to attend all sessions is required of the participant, and a statement of support is required of the participant's supervisor.  See above link to obtain form.  NMOP is delivered by the Centre for Continuing Education and financed through the University's corporate learning fund.  Departments may incur a cancellation fee if attendance requirements are not met.
