The purpose of a job evaluation system is to ensure that employees are properly recognized for the work they perform. The rate of pay is determined by the pay grade or band that is assigned to the job once it has been evaluated. The pay grade or band is established through a process called job evaluation (JE).
JE is a process where a job's relative worth is evaluated based on four (4) key factors: Skill, Effort, Responsibility and Working Conditions. The system is consistent with the requirements of the Pay Equity Act.
Positions within the university are evaluated and checked for consistency. Once the job's content has been evaluated, a pay grade or band is assigned and the corresponding salary range is set accordingly per the salary grid.
