Total Compensation Changes for TMG | June, 2014

McMaster has the benefit of an active and engaged TMG Committee which leads and participates in matters affecting TMG and the University. Through dialogue with the President and Vice-President’s group (PVP) and Human Resources, the Committee endeavours to create a sense of community among TMG members. Of particular note is the TMG Committee's input on decisions regarding TMG monetary and non-monetary compensation strategy. PVP is very grateful for the commitment and contributions of the TMG Committee and its Sub-Committees.

In preparation for the compensation discussions this year, the TMG Committee organized a series of focus groups to obtain your input on the total compensation program in effect for members of TMG. The feedback that was shared, along with the input from the TMG Committee, was very valuable and is serving as a foundation for the future. The purpose of this memo is to share with you the key features of a longer-term plan to re-invigorate the compensation program for TMG as well as the highlights of this year's annual review of TMG Total Compensation.

TMG Survey Updates | October, 2011 

The TMG members of the current Total Rewards Advisory Committee (TRAC) asked for your input into a proposed new structure and purpose for a committee to have input on TMG issues.  42% of the current TMG membership took the time to respond to this survey and to provide thoughtful comment. Respondents were largely in support of all aspects of the proposed model. Where applicable, suggestions have been incorporated into the model.

Several individuals provided their comments on various aspects of the proposed TMG Committee.  The following is a general summary of the major themes identified in the survey comments:

  • TMG & TMG Confidential should be treated as two (2) separate groups (2 individual comments);
  • Committee should be separate from Human Resources Services (5 individual comments);
  • HRS/PVP to be integral part of Committee / attend meetings (4 individual comments);
  • Not enough information about the proposed model (6 individual comments);
  • Members nominated / elected to the committee (6 individual comments);
  • Disappointed with TMG representation / salary / structure / compensation (5 individual comments);
  • Regular committee updates to TMG with ability to provide feedback / input i.e., more TMG Forums / Website (7 individual comments);
  • Minimum number of meetings to be scheduled at outset and held to / exceeded (11 individual comments).
