Health and Safety Training for McMaster Employees

EOHSS offers both in-class and a number of online training sessions to communicate information regarding hazards. EOHSS always recommends attending the in-class sessions, as it provides an opportunity to interact with a competent instructor; but if this is not possible, several sessions are available for completion online. Please see our Training Catalogue for a detailed list of the courses offered by EOHSS, and our Training Matrices to determine which courses you are required to take.

Training materials in an accessible format and catered sessions can be provided upon request to .

Do You Need More Training?

Depending on their role within the Univeristy and workplace environment, employees may be required to take additional hazard specific training. For a detailed list of all role specific training please see our Training Matrices.

Employees should also receive site-specific, on the job training from their supervisors in which they are made aware of any and all job hazards, protective measures and standard operating procedures.

Job Hazard Analysis

A component of safety audit criteria requires McMaster to provide a documented job hazard analysis of main activities in the workplace. A job hazard analysis is essential in clarifying the work to be done in conjunction with the hazards and controls associated with the tasks. Individuals must review the job hazard analysis task forms with their supervisor to ensure all main activities have been identified, and that proper training has been provided.

Please see our Instruction Guide for step by step directions on how to go about completing a Job Hazard Analysis.

A JHA must be completed upon the start of any and all work contracts. This applies to all staff, faculty, visitors, volunteers, contractors and placement students.

To view further information regarding JHA's, please refer to: or RMM #324: Job Hazard Analysis Program
