PAYROLL INFORMATION:

The following information has been compiled to assist you in understanding your payments in the 2011/2012 Academic Year.

WHERE HANDLED – Human Resources Services, Campus Services Building 202

All aspects of payments (including Income Tax receipts and address changes) are to be handled there.  Inquiries about payments should be directed to your HR Advisor.

EMPLOYEE NUMBER – Different than student number

Your student number and your employee number are different.  When asked for your employee number on documents pertaining to payments, please provide your student and employee number.

WHEN AVAILABLE - *NEW* Biweekly Payments

Payday has moved from the last Thursday of each month, to every other Friday beginning Friday, May 21, 2010 (Pay period: May 2 - 15, 2010).  For current 2012 pay dates, click here.

DEDUCTIONS – Please keep the following information in mind

Taxes: The University is required by law to deduct Employment Insurance (EI) and Canada Pension Premiums (CPP) on all employment income.
Income Tax will be assessed on employment income only.  Scholarship, bursary and fellowship income is now exempt from tax.  You should complete the Personal Tax Credit Return Forms (TD1 and TD1ON) which may lower the rate at which you are taxed.  Please return completed forms to Human Resources Services (Campus Services Building 202).

CUPE: If you are receiving a Teaching Assistantship, you are a member of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3906, Unit 1.  Union dues (at the current rate of 2.5% of the above employment) will be deducted every pay period in each month you receive TA monies.

Dental Plan: An Employee in Classification A (CUPE Unit 1) who is contracted to work at least 130 hours for the academic year (September 1, 2011 to August 31, 2012) will have Dental Plan Premiums, $7.04 for single coverage and $62.91 for family coverage, deducted each month for the full year (September to August).  Provisions for opting-out of the Dental Plan or for obtaining family coverage are covered in two separate documents attached.

Email: It is important that you keep your email address information up-to-date so that the CUPE Office can contact you if necessary.  Please ensure that the email address you list on the “Hours of Work Form” is the same one that you have listed on MUGSI.  You must activate your MacID to be setup for email with a University address.  If this is not the email address you normally check, please redirect your mail to an address you do monitor.  This can be done via the ‘Rules’ section in Univmail where it states “Redirect All Mail To”.

DIRECT DEPOSIT – Is Mandatory

Your biweekly payments will be deposited directly into your back account.  This method of payment is mandatory. A “Statement of Earnings” showing details of your payment, will be mailed to you at your department of employment.  You should complete the Employee Contact & Deposit Form with your direct deposit information and return to the Human Resources Services Office (Campus Services Building 202).

Please arrange this immediately as failure to do so may result in considerable delay in receiving your pay.

If you have questions about your payments, please feel free to contact your HR Advisor.

SOCIAL INSURANCE NUMBER (SIN) – It is essential that Human Resources Services has your SIN

For Income Tax receipt purposes Human Resources Services MUST have your Social Insurance Number (SIN).  If you do not have a SIN number, please apply at:
