North American Occupational Safety & Health (NAOSH) Week

May 2nd - May 8th, 2010

The EOHSS department is thrilled to announce another exciting week of events for North American Occupational Safety & Health (NAOSH) Week running from Monday, May 3rd to Friday May 7th.  Every year, during the first week of May, corporations across North America come together to celebrate North American Occupational Safety and Health Week.  The purpose of NAOSH week is to promote ongoing health and safety in the workplace and the community.  This year's theme is "How Safe are You?".  Our celebration includes a vendor fair on Wednesday, May 5th accompanied by a BBQ for all staff as well as a draw for great prizes.  Our vendor fair will be held in front of Burke Science Building or the MUSC atrium in case of rain.  The Health and Safety Award of Excellence will be presented by our President Dr. Peter George at 12:10pm.

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), instituted by the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services, is new legislation aimed at making Ontario fully accessible by 2025 through the institution of 5 standards. The first standard to come into force is Customer Service, and as a public organization the University must ensure the standard is in place throughout campus. This standard requires that Accessible Customer Service training is provided to everyone who provides service to the public on McMaster's behalf.  The AODA Information & Training Session will provide employees with a chance to discuss the implications of the AODA at McMaster, and the new Policy on Accessibility, which was passed in early March.  Employees in attendance will be marked as having completed their training.
