Medavie Blue Cross Group Travel Insurance
The information presented below is applicable to those employees who are covered under the Blue Cross Group Travel Insurance plan through McMaster University.
What You Need to Know Before Traveling
Please refer to the Blue Cross Brochure for information pertaining to the Blue Cross Group Travel Insurance plan.
If you are planning travel outside of the province, you may wish to contact Blue Cross directly to confirm coverage for you and any eligible dependants. You may do so by calling the Medavie Blue Cross Customer Contact Centre at 1-800-355-9133. Please have your McMaster Policy number (G-30066) and your Employee I.D. number on hand.
Although you may have been issued a Blue Cross identification card, please be aware this card serves to provide you with information only. If you do not have a Blue Cross identification card and are planning travel outside of the province, you may either print off a copy of the Blue Cross Brochure, or ensure you keep the following information with you while traveling:
- McMaster University's Blue Cross Policy Number: G-30066
- Your Plan I.D Number: This is your McMaster employee I.D. Number
- CanAssistance Number to Call in Case of Emergency:
From Canada or the USA: 1-800-563-4444
From Anywhere Else: 506-854-2222 (collect)
Extension of Coverage for Faculty Research Leaves:
Faculty members who are planning travel outside of the province for Research or University Business purposes and wish to apply to have their Blue Cross Group Travel Insurance coverage extended beyond 120 days should complete the following form and submit to Human Resources Services at CSB-202 no later than 30 days prior to your departure date.
Application for Extension of Blue Cross Coverage
Note: Effective May 1, 2010, Cuba will make it mandatory for all visitors to hold travel health insurance from providers approved by the Cuban government. Blue Cross is affiliated with CanAssistance, which has been identified as an approved provider. Therefore, McMaster employees who are covered under Blue Cross should not be affected by this change.
