Mark Haley, CHRP
Assistant VP, Human Resources Services

The Assistant Vice-President, Human Resources Services provides overall leadership to the Human Resources Services department consistent with the strategic direction of the University. HR Administration supports the department generally by providing services related to budget administration and the provision of administrative support.
Since October 2000, Mark has held the position of Assistant Vice-President, Human Resources Services at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. McMaster University has over 22,000 full-time and part-time students and is primarily located in Hamilton, Ontario. McMaster University employs over 7,500 full time faculty staff and approximately 4,500 part time employees. McMaster’s total annual payroll exceeds $335 million and McMaster has total revenue in excess of $750 million.
Mr. Haley has executive responsibility for a team of 50 staff who deliver the full spectrum of HR services including employee relations' services, inclusive of collective bargaining and collective agreement administration; health benefits services, compensation, recruitment, occupational health and safety as well as supporting the delivery of all HR practices and policies. Mark also has executive responsibility of Parking and Security with staff of 68 employees.
Prior to joining McMaster, Mark held progressively responsible positions in Human Resources Management in Ontario and Alberta. He began his career in Toronto in the early 1980’s with DeHavilland Aircraft and Alcan Products. Following employment with the Ontario Government’s ministries of Health, Community and Social Services and Environment, Mark relocated to Alberta in 1989. From 1989 to 2000, Mark worked with health care employers concluding his ‘Alberta Experience’ in the employ of Provincial Health Authorities of Alberta (PHAA).
An exceptionally strong HR professional, Mark has demonstrated superior leadership in change management, collective bargaining and employee relations as well as the design and delivery of health care benefits and compensation structures. Mark earned his BA from Acadia University and has his Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.
